As a participating organization in “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Vikshit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,” The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Gol Park, Kolkata, held a programme on 2nd August between 10 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. at its Turiyananda Hall, following the guidelines from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Vedic peace chantings by the monks coupled with a devotional violin song by the students marked the programme’s beginning at 10 a.m. In his welcome address, Swami Tattwasarananda ji, the Institute’s secretary, informed the audience of the Sankalp Abhiyan’s purpose and how each person could contribute to its successful implementation. This was followed by a short speech in English from the Chief Guest Dr Sabujkali Sen, former Vice-Chancellor of Viswabharati, Santiniketan, who highlighted the causes of drug addiction among the Youth and its remedial measures. Next was guided Meditation conducted by Swami Vedaswarupananda, a senior monk of the Ramakrishna Mission.
The special guest, Swami Maheshanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Katihar, Bihar, then gave a very inspiring speech. In his talk in Hindi, the Swamiji gave the audience some innovative ideas for tackling the menace of drug addiction. This was followed by the Administration of the Nasha Mukti Yuva Pledge. The first part of the programme ended with a violin recital by Sri Nirbid Acharya, a student, just before the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address to the Nation.
The full capacity audience listened to the spellbinding talk by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi ji. At the end, both the national song and the national anthem were played. Snacks and tea were served to the 140 participants before they left the Institute of Culture.
